Severn Pathology/NBT Primary Care Biochemistry Guidance

The Clinical Biochemistry Department provides a comprehensive, clinically led laboratory service for North Bristol NHS Trust and the surrounding community including the provision of regional and some national and international services. In addition to laboratory automated services, particular expertise is available in the areas of:

  • Antenatal and Newborn Screening
  • Biochemical Genetics
  • Toxicology
  • Specialist Proteins
  • Cholinesterase studies
  • Point-of-Care testing

A clinical advice and interpretative service is available on a 24 hours basis. Tests not performed within the Trust may be sent to Supra Regional Services or other approved laboratories. The department is fully accredited by Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd and actively participates in National External Quality Assurance programmes, where schemes are available.
