The CCG has been recognised for the quality of its management in a set of national awards.

We were placed third in the Delivering Clinical Commissioning Leadership category at The Healthcare Transformation Awards on Wednesday (29 June).

It reflects the value we place on clinical leadership and our ethos of the CCG being ‘clinically led, managerially driven’.

This means local healthcare professionals, particularly GPs who make up the membership of the CCG, leading our work in commissioning the health services you use, such as urgent care, most routine surgery and community services such as physiotherapy and mental health.

Ten are appointed as Clinical Leads with a responsibility for an area of health commissioning, and some of them have a seat on the Governing Body.

You can find out more about who our Clinical Leads are and what work they do in the Our People section.

Notable successes we highlighted to the award committee were our Clinical Lead for Dementia, Dr Peter Bagshaw, leading the roll-out of one of the first memory assessment services in the country to be based in GP surgeries (rather than solely in hospitals), and developing the skills of a practice-based pharmacist who has now successfully set up a new care homes pharmacist service as an integral part of the CCG’s new model of enhanced care for care home residents.
